Anne Hathaway Engagement Party in N.Y.C.

Anne Hathaway has a reason to party.

The Dark Knight Rises actress, 29, celebrated her November engagement to fiancé Adam Shulman on Saturday night, a source tells PEOPLE.

“Anne had a smile on her face all night long,” the source says of the soirée. “With every friend and family member that approached her, that smile just got brighter.”

No celebrities attended the 125-person fete, which was thrown by the couple’s parents at Housing Works Bookstore Café in SoHo.

“Some of the family was meeting each other for the first time,” adds the source. “It was so very important for them to just have an amazing time introducing their families and making sure that everyone they knew and loved was on board.”

Guests noshed on vegan burgers and cupcakes (Hathaway is a vegetarian), as well as decadent sides, such as truffle macaroni and cheese, prepared by The Works Catering (which is also funded by Housing Works, a nonprofit advocating awareness for the homelessness and HIV/AIDS crises).

Another touch reflecting the taste of the bride-to-be: the plum-colored flowers tucked inside mini bell jars, which were arranged by floral designer Rebecca Shepherd. “There wasn’t too much pink,” the source says. “Anne doesn’t like pink too much.”

Hathaway stunned in a cocktail-length navy blue dress with silver detailing – and a very special accessory.

“I caught her catching a glimpse of her ring a few times,” the source says of the actress’s emerald-cut Kwiat diamond stunner.

The couple toasted their friends and family with champagne, and “there was just a lot of gratitude all night long,” the source says.

Adds the source: “They just seemed to be happier than most couples.”
